An annual pageant was held Friday that proved beauty is only skin deep, at least when it comes to man's best friend.

The 26th annual "World’s Ugliest Dog" contest took place at the Sonoma-Marin Fair.

29 dogs competed for the title. Among them was 16-year-old Chihuahua, Addie from Farmington, N.M.

This year's winner is a two-year-old mutt named "Peanut."

Three judges scored the dogs on special or unusual attributes, personality and overall ugliness.

Peanut's owner Holly Chandler of Greenville, North Carolina says peanut was seriously burned as a puppy.
