The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Wednesday their department was involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting in southwest Albuquerque.

The incident took place Wednesday morning while a deputy marshal attempted to serve a federal arrest warrant at 9204 Upper Meadow Avenue SW. Initial reports indicate the deputy marshal discharged an agency-issued firearm, resulting in the death of the fugitive.

Law enforcement personnel were not injured during the incident.

The investigation is being handled by New Mexico State Police, Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department and Bernalillo District Attorney's Office.

The U.S. Marshal Service said they cannot comment further on the shooting because it is under investigation.
