A man who police believe is responsible for multiple armed robberies in Santa Fe is now behind bars.

Santa Fe Police arrested Andrew Valencia, 42, Saturday after an officer recognized Valencia from surveillance photos.

When the suspect was questioned he admitted to four recent robberies in Santa Fe. Valencia told police he a stole a woman purse in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriot Hotel and then reached inside a room at the Double tree Hotel, both incidents occurred on June 28th.

Valencia also told investigators he robbed a 17-year-old volunteer at the Georgia O’Keefe Museum Monday and stole a 68-year-old woman’s purse Wednesday near San Francisco Street and Park Avenue.

During each robbery victims told police the suspect had threatened them with a handgun. Officers found a BB gun in Valencia’s backpack that had been altered to look like a real handgun.

"We worked continuously, collaboratively and quickly to apprehend this suspect," Santa Fe Police Chief Eric Garcia said. "I allocated extra resources to protect our citizens, visitors and businesses, and having Valencia behind bars shows the community's efforts paid off."

Valencia faces charges of armed robbery, aggravated burglary and others.
