SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A historic fly-fishing ranch near Pecos is suing an electric cooperative, claiming its negligence led to a 2013 wildfire that destroyed thousands of acres of forest.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reported  Friday that Cow Creek Ranch filed a complaint against Mora-San Miguel Electric Cooperative in state District Court.

Cow Creek is the third area ranch to file suit against the co-op since March.

Authorities say the Tres Lagunas Fire, which burned more than 15 square miles in the Santa Fe National Forest, was sparked in May 2013 by a tree falling on a power line.

In the complaint, Cow Creek says the cooperative failed to remove that tree, which had been dead for several years.

No one at the cooperative, which is closed Saturday, was available for comment.
