Bernalillo County deputy charged with aggravated DWI

A Bernalillo County deputy has been arrested for driving drunk and speeding.

According to court documents, Mikal Duran was twice the legal limit when an Albuquerque police officer stopped him for speeding on San Mateo near McLeod on Friday night.

He was charged with aggravated DWI, speeding and having no insurance.

BCSO Captain Edward Mims said Duran has been relieved of his law enforcement duties and is on paid leave pending the investigation.

Duran has been a deputy since January 2012.
