Two APD officers who went to the home of an Albuquerque boy who later died will have to go through more training.
Lapel camera video from officers Gil Vigil and Scott McMurrough show the two responding to a 911 call from the home of 9-year-old Omaree Varela last year in June.
In the call, you could hear the boy's mother and stepfather berating the boy. The officers went to the home, but never listened to the call. Six months later police say Omaree's mother kicked him to death.
Wednesday, both officers appeared before the Law Enforcement Academy Board. They were ordered to go through an additional 40 hours of child abuse and domestic violence training. It's the only way they'll be able to keep their certification.
