The Mountain West Conference football media poll is out and the sports writer’s and broadcaster’s believe a championship game would feature Fresno State against Boise State.

In the Mountain division the Broncos received 20-first place votes with Utah State getting 12 and CSU receiving one. The lobos are picked just ahead of Air Force in 5th place. In the West division Fresno State received 15 first place votes, SDSU also 15, with Nevada getting 3.

Whether you're a favorite like Boise State or a cellar dweller like New Mexico and Air Force, you try not to pay too much attention to the preseason poll.

"At one point in my career I was doing the picking myself and realize it's not an exact science," said UNM head coach Bob Davie

Davie was a media favorite today, being a former media member himself.  His players say they're not surprised.  They say their coach is a smooth operator.

"When coach Davie first got here, like the first speech he gave us, I was just like 'Wow, coach. You're amazing.'  It's just like when he speaks you feel like you have to listen.  He has so many good things to say.  He's seen so much, it's just amazing.  I feel like he can't run out of anything to say," said Lobo, LaMar Batton.

"It's great watching him because he can counter act any question and make it sound like great.  He always has great answers for us so it's fun to watch," said Lobo, Dakota Cox.

The Lobos start workouts next week and their first game is August 30th against UTEP.
