Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Unit Detectives served a search warrant Thursday for possession of Child Pornography.
A special agent with the Attorney General’s Office was conducting an online investigation and advised BCSO detectives that an internet address at the 300 block of Riverside Drive SW had downloaded and shared files that contained graphic child pornography involving children as young as 5 years old.
According to the criminal complaint, the internet protocol address of the user was found to be registered to Michael Apodaca, 28.
Detectives served the warrant around 7:00am Thursday morning and questioned Apodaca who admitted to downloading images.
According to BCSO, there were possibly 18,000 estimated images that had been downloaded.
A forensic exam will take place on the computers seized to determine exactly how many child pornography files are on his computer.
Apodaca was arrested and charged with distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
