If you plan on using Paseo Del Norte this weekend, think again. Crews will completely shut down the area near Paseo and Jefferson while they work on the new Jefferson Overpass, which is set to open Monday morning.
Starting Friday night at 8, eastbound Paseo from 2nd Street to I-25 will be shut down. At 9 a.m., Jefferson will be closed in both directions from just south of Paseo to El Pueblo. On Saturday morning at 8 a.m., westbound Paseo from Jefferson to 2nd will be shut down.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 has learned drivers aren't the only ones concerned, so are local businesses.
"I've been in it and I mean, it's just, it's awful," said Emilio Escamilla, who works at Squeezed Juice Bar off Paseo.
Escamilla said the construction has actually been bringing new customers to the bar. But this weekend, he's a bit worried.
"I definitely think it's going to hinder like a little bit of business but I think it's worth it in the long run," Escamilla added.
Staying positive – that's what Pastor David Adkins of New Covenant Church is doing, especially after he found out the closures would be in place until Monday.
"Yeah. That's when I knew that that was going to affect us," Pastor Adkins said.
Sundays are important for the church, so Pastor Adkins has been busy telling churchgoers about the closures and has been finding alternate routes for them.
Both Paster Adkins and Emilio Escamilla are looking forward to December when the construction is expected to wrap up. They're sure drivers feel the same way.
