When you think about the kinds of things kids buy with their allowance money, you probably think of video games, toys, maybe even candy.

But one Rio Rancho 8-year-old girl is using her allowance to do something for the most vulnerable in our community.

This past week has been a particularly difficult one for the homeless community.

A week ago, New Mexico was shocked to learn three teens were accused of savagely beating two homeless men to death with cinderblocks.

But, meeting 8-year-old Ariana Montoya may restore your faith in humanity.

"We really care for them so we want to help them," Ariana said.

Ariana doesn't really follow the news, but she follows her heart. Even before news of attacks on the homeless dominated headlines, Ariana was helping in her own way.

Her parents give her $5 here, $10 there for chores done.

Ariana didn't want to spend her allowance on herself, instead choosing to buy supplies for women, children, and men with no home to call their own.

"I think God would really like it a lot, so I do it for God and the poor people," she said.

Ariana calls her project Earth Angels.

She creates a bag full of everyday items. Including deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, water, and a bar of soap.

While driving with her parents, she spots the homeless and gives each one a bag .

The best part of the gift is the handwritten note that comes inside.

"You're special in every way, God Bless you. Be safe. Jesus loves you."

In our adult world of violence, stress, and grief, it sometimes takes the heart of a child to remind us, good does exist.
