Several viewers caught frightening scenes from overnight.
A driver plowed right into deep flood water at central and first. By the time they realized the danger, it was too late to reverse. Their s-u-v carried away in the water.
Firefighters say they had to rescue about 10 drivers who also got stuck, most of them on flooded downtown streets. They say one car was completely submerged.
Some streets looked more like a raging river. One police officer even tried blocking traffic with his car, while water moved in all around him.
"This is really a shock. I didn't expect it, said Albuquerque resident, Rein Whitt-Pritchette. "I've been in Albuquerque since 1971. I rarely have ever seen that kind of rain before."
He wasn't the only one caught off guard. Last night's flooding left behind a muddy mess Saturday morning. Clean up crews got to work pumping all that water off central.
The Civic Center parking garage also flooded. It was closed Saturday as crews mopped up all the water in the underground garage.
The convention center wasn't spared either. Cleanup crews worked to clean up some minor water damage and it didn't delay or cancel any events.
