Sandoval County officials unanimously approved an emergency declaration for Algodones on Monday morning.

The declaration will allow the county to apply for federal disaster funding.

Chopper 4 was over the area last month when rain caused a ditch to overflow, flooding nearby neighborhoods.

Residents are invited to a public meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 6 to discuss plans to prevent future flooding problems. Representatives from the Sandoval County Fire and Sheriff's Departments, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District and the Coronado Soil & Water Conservation District are expected to attend the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Algodones Fire Station, which is located on Highway 313 in Algodones.
