A proposal to eliminate jail time for marijuana possession under an ounce was introduced to the Albuquerque City Council tonight.
Rey Garduno brought the measure forward after a petition effort to bring the issue to voters in
November was curtailed when the city clerk mistakenly provided the wrong number of required signatures to make the ballot.
At the next meeting on August 18 the council will decide if the pot penalty reduction measure should go before voters.
If passed on November's ballot, possession of less than an ounce would be punishable with a $25 fine.
