Nearly three quarters of the abortion clinics in Texas could have to close when a new law goes into effect at the end of the month, so attorneys for the state suggest women can just go to New Mexico for abortions.

According to the Associated Press, the Texas clinics would have to close if they can't meet a new law requiring them to have the same standards as surgical centers.

Attorneys for the abortion clinics say the remaining clinics would be in major cities, leaving women near the Mexico border most affected by the closures.

But Jimmy Blacklock, a deputy attorney general, told the Associated Press that women in El Paso can just drive 10 or 15 minutes into New Mexico to find an abortion provider.

A U.S. district judge is currently looking at a challenge to the law.
