People who live near Rio Grande Boulevard and Rice Avenue say an argument turned violent early Tuesday, resulting in two people being shot and a suspect on the run.

"Like a confrontation, like they started arguing and then the gunfire happened," said a neighbor, who does not want to be identified.

The man said it's something he will never forget because it happened so close to his house.

"It was pretty intense," he added.

Albuquerque police said two people showed up to a man's apartment near Rio Grande and Rice. Neighbors said they heard arguing and then gun shots.

"At least three times he said, 'Help me,' and then you hear him say it one more time and then you hear one last gun shot and then it was silent," he said.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital and released. One of the suspects has died from a gunshot wound. The other suspect is still out there, and that's why the neighbor is protecting his identity.

"That was the scary part. Not even 10 feet away, 15 feet away. That brick wall really divides the crime scene from our house to those apartment buildings," he said.

Police believe the person they're looking for was wearing dark clothes and possibly a hat. If you have any information, call (505)-242-2677.
