A truck driver was killed in a crash involving three semis on I-40 near Grants on Wednesday.
According to New Mexico State Police, a semi carrying passenger cars was traveling eastbound when the driver's front left tire failed. The truck then crossed the center median and traveled across the westbound lanes, struck a guardrail and overturned.
A second semi truck traveling westbound was almost struck by the eastbound truck and slowed down in the right lane of I-40 westbound. A third truck traveling westbound struck the second truck from behind, which ignited both trucks and resulted in the fire. The driver of the third truck was ejected and died at the scene.
Both westbound truck cabs were completely burned. State police said the third truck was carrying a diesel oil mix, but the trailer did not burn and the diesel oil mix did not catch fire. The diesel oil mix was later transferred to another tanker truck.
