The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department has completed its investigation into Albuquerque Public School's former police chief over missing ammunition.

Steve Tellez was fired in March over accusations that he stole the ammunition from the APS Police Department.

According to BCSO's report, a detective searched Tellez's home and located ammunition consistent with the kind that was taken from the storage room, but he was unable to identify it as the same ammunition because the shipping labels were missing.

Detectives then contacted the distributor and noted that the ammunition found in Tellez's home was shipped earlier than the ammunition that went missing from the APS storage area. They also noted that the ammunition found in Tellez's home appears to have been shipped to another distributor before arriving to its final destination. The missing ammunition was shipped directly to APS.

Investigators said they could not find anyone else, besides Tellez, with motive to take the ammunition.

The sheriff's department has forwarded their findings to the district attorney's office to determine if any charges should be filed.
