When an Albuquerque teen set out to get his Eagle Scout badge, he decided to honor Albuquerque police officers in his service project.

Damian Arruti, 17, decided to build a picnic bench and install it at the Albuquerque Police Academy. He says it took months to complete.

His team installed the bench Saturday morning, along with seven truckloads of gravel. All of the materials were donated.

"I just thought it would be a great way that I could give back to the men and women that serve and protect our community every day," Arruti said.

The picnic table also features a metal plaque dedicating the project to APD.

Arruti now gets his Eagle Scout badge.
