A jealous fit of rage is what reportedly sparked Marcos Delgado to shoot and kill his ex-girlfriend, Anna Vigil. Local domestic violence advocates say horrific stories like this can really affect victims.

A week ago Monday, Bernalillo County Deputies say Manuel Flores attempted to run over his girlfriend with his truck. Flores was reportedly upset because he thought he heard another man's voice in the background while he was talking to her on the phone. Seconds later, a deputy shot and killed him after he rammed that truck into a deputy's car.

And just this past Friday, police say Marcos Delgado shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, Anna Vigil in a jealous rage. They say he did so because vigil had a new boyfriend.

It's stories like these that really trigger clients with Domestic Violence Resource Center, a local agency that works with victims of domestic violence.

"Our clients are very sensitive to what's happening on TV," said Teresa.

Teresa works with the agency and she explains how it can affect victims.

"Either they decide to stay because they don't want it to end in a death or it triggers people to get out sooner because they don't want it to end in a death," she said.

Teresa says it's important to point out that both men and women can be victims of domestic violence.

According to statewide numbers: 1 in 3 women are affected by an abusive relationship and for men, it's 1 in 9.

Two horrific stories twice in just one week, but Teresa wants people to know there is help out there.
