Gas prices are taking a toll on wallets all over the Land of Enchantment. It's as high as $3.53 a gallon in Albuquerque, $3.99 in Clines Corners and $3.89 all over southwestern New Mexico. But there's one area bucking the trend.
"Oh I think $2.89 gas prices is fantastic," said Rodney Stevens in Roswell.
"I think it's wonderful; it's nice to see gas prices dropping back down," said Ron Sponagel.
Roswell is the only place in the state you'll find gas under three bucks.
Over the weekend it was $2.89; Wednesday it's $2.99, and drivers are thrilled.
"Well, I think it's tremendous," said Bill Wheeler.
"A lot of people are surprised when it's that low," said Amanda Machen, manager of Chisum Travel Center in Roswell, which had lines in both directions Wednesday afternoon.
Down the street at the Circle K, gas was also $2.99 a gallon.
But not everyone in Roswell is dropping their prices - across the street from Circle K, they're charging $3.19.
The Shell station further into town hasn't budged, and is still charging $3.39.
But even with the prices this low, drivers still aren't satisfied.
"It could be a lot better with the economy the way it is," Wheeler said.
"Over three bucks is really expensive. I'd love for it to go down to at least $2.50 or $2.60; it would help out everybody," said Miguel Trujillo.
Other than competition, it's not completely clear why prices are so cheap in Roswell, or how long they'll stay that way.
