Albuquerque police are looking for a killer after a gruesome discovery today in a vacant lot near Wyoming and Zuni in southeast Albuquerque.

Police found a woman's body around 9 a.m. this morning, and told KOB it was "obvious" she was violently attacked.

"I know officers who were on scene are very shaken up," APD spokeswoman Ferris Simmons said.

Alex Marquez lives right next to the vacant lot and witnessed the murder.

He was working in his back yard and he said he saw a man and a woman having sex on a mattress behind some trees in the vacant lot. He said it didn't appear the man was hurting the woman so he went back inside.

"Ten minutes later I came back and put the tools away," he said. "I saw the individual bludgeoning her. He had something up in the air like a bloody brick. So I ran back in and called 911. "

Police say a witness saw a man running away from the scene. They described the suspect as a 5'4" male with short hair who was wearing a red t-shirt, black jeans and was wearing a backpack at the time of the crime.

"It's the first time we've seen something like this near our house," Urias said.

Police have yet to identify the woman or say how she was killed, and are asking the public for any information they may have.

Around the same time this morning, a SWAT team situation was unraveling near Zuni and Dallas.

Police handcuffed a man in a red shirt, but released him just a few minutes later.

The man wouldn't say why he was detained, and it's unclear if that situation was related to the murder scene.
