Two dogs in Lovington were attacked with acid again this week in a disturbing sequel to a similar attack in July.

This time, the puppies weren't as fortunate, and didn't survive.

"The community is shocked," said Pat Huntley, an animal rescuer.

It's a horrifying crime that's happening again and again in Lovington, but police still don't know who's behind it.

"Somebody did this to deliberately torture the dogs with no rhyme or reason," said Huntley.

The two pit bull puppies were in their yard Monday when someone doused them in acid.

The three-week-old puppies didn't make it.

"I was in tears as soon as I found out this morning," Huntley said. "We want to find these people; we want to put them behind bars."

On the 4th of July, a family came home from vacation to find their dog burned by acid.

A week later, a pit bull was stolen from its' home and also tortured the same way.

"There is some twisted individual out there that's doing this deliberately," said Huntley.

Lovington police say they're trying to get to the bottom of this before it happens again.

"We're taking this seriously, and it's upset a lot of people," said Lovington Police Detective David Miranda.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward, and community members are helping to raise money for another.

They've raised $500 so far, and local veterinarian Dr. Keith Cloward has also donated $500.

"Especially since it involved puppies, [news of the incident] is spreading like wildfire," said Huntley.
