ALBUQUERQUE -- Dr. Analee Maestas was the only Albuquerque Public Schools board member who would comment to KOB on former Superintendent Winston Brooks' resignation this morning.

"This decision is the best option for APS at this time," Maestas said as she and the APS School Board accepted Brooks' resignation, a role he's held since 2008.

"The decision to end the employment relationship will allow both the board and Brooks to establish a new direction," Maestas said.

Ruben Hendrickson, currently the COO of APS, was picked to serve as acting superintendent, but will only hold the role until next week, when the board plans on appointing an interim superintendent.

The district will pay Brooks $350,000 as part of his resignation agreement.
