First-Ever Green Chile Stew Contest

Created: 08/18/2014 7:19 AM

If you have a favorite recipe for green chile stew (and what New Mexican doesn't?), you should know about a new food contest at the 2014 New Mexico State Fair. It's also the only competition that requires pre-registration - with an August 20 deadline.

In the first-ever live cooking competition in Home Arts, non-professional cooks will compete for cash prizes and gift cards presented by The Frontier Restaurant, sponsor of the new contest. The top winner will receive $100 in cash and a $50 gift card from The Frontier; the other winners will receive lesser cash prizes and gift cards.

The Green Chile Stew competition is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18, in the Creative Arts Building, with judging at 4 p.m.

Those interested in entering must mail the registration form, included in the premium book, no later than Wednesday, August 20. One week later, on August 27, judges will review the forms to ensure each entry meets contest rules, draw 10 names to take part and notify the individuals. The Frontier will present each participant with $25 to help defray the cost of ingredients.

Like all Home Arts food competitions, the contest is intended only for amateur cooks; anyone working in the food industry, in any capacity, is asked to not enter.

The Home Arts premium book is available online at
