The University of New Mexico says it is investigating an alleged hazing incident that occurred over the weekend involving the women's soccer team.

"We currently have someone outside of the athletics program investigating the incident and interviewing members of the team. We are very early in the process of this and do not have all the facts at this time," UNM Athletic Dept. spokesman Frank Mercogliano told KOB in a press release.

"This is a situation that we take very seriously, and will do everything in our power to get answers to what occurred."

UNMPD Lt. Tim Stump told KOB, police received a call at 11:56 p.m. Sunday from the sister of a University of New Mexico women's soccer player, who told police the player was incredibly intoxicated at an off-campus location.

The player was then transported to the hospital.

The team was in Tucson, Arizona over the weekend for an exhibition match with the University of Arizona Saturday night.
