A New Mexico Department of Health spokesman says a patient at UNM Hospital who is currently being tested for Ebola does not have a common symptom associated with the virus.
Kenny Vigil told KOB Eyewitness News 4 the patient's fever has not risen to the level that an Ebola virus sufferer's fever would typically reach.
The 30-year-old woman recently visited Sierra Leone, Africa, and returned to the United States earlier this month. Sierra Leone is one of several countries in West Africa with known cases of Ebola.
Test results from the woman's blood samples are not expected until the end of the week.
The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta will determine whether or not she has the deadly virus.
Deputy state epidemiologist Joan Baumbach says she believes there is a low chance the woman will test positive. If she does, it would be the first confirmed case detected in the United States.
