LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man accused of killing four people during a five-day August shooting rampage around suburban Los Angeles has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Prosecutors say Alexander Hernandez entered his plea Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court to charges that could bring the death penalty.

The 34-year-old Hernandez is charged with four counts of capital murder, seven counts of attempted murder and 11 related crimes.

Authorities say Hernandez is a serial killer who spread fear throughout the San Fernando Valley by randomly targeting people in cars.

Prosecutors say the shotgun shootings began Aug. 20 when a woman was blasted while driving to work. She survived.

Four others died before Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of shooting dogs with a shotgun and detectives linked him to the other shootings.
