Rio Rancho police will conduct a funeral escort for a Bernalillo County sheriff's deputy on Monday morning.

Shannon Key, 40, passed away last Wednesday after a seven-year battle with brain cancer.

Key served 16 years with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.

"Shannon battled brain cancer for 7 years and during this time never complained and always said he felt 'GREAT' even when he didn't," Key's obituary reads. "He was known to many as a family man, police officer, fighter, warrior, friend and most importantly a servant of God."

Golf Course Road will close from Ann Circle to Westside Boulevard at 9 a.m. for the funeral procession to Mesa Baptist Church. The roadway will be reopened once the escort has reached the church.

Around 11:30 a.m., Golf Course Road traffic will be diverted a second time to facilitate the escort's travel out of Rio Rancho. Around 11:45 a.m., State Road 528 and Westside Boulevard will be closed as the procession passes into Albuquerque and continues onto Alameda Boulevard.
