SANTA FE -- Old Man Gloom rolled his eyes, twisted his head, moaned and groaned and waved and wailed Friday night, but even at 2000 pounds of pure gloom Zozobra was no match for flame-hungry Santa Fe.

"It's so unique and I think we're lucky to have it," one attendee said.

This year, Zozobra stood at 50 feet.

"They made him a little different. They gave him a mustache, last year he was wearing a gown," a child said.

The bogeyman was stuffed fat with divorce papers, debt collection notices and the year's regrets.

One man put in "a lot of negative feelings and a lot of anger that shouldn't have happened."

Another chose "some old school work from last year."

A new generation got ready to burn him.
"It's a longtime tradition," one father said. "I came as a kid and we live in Arizona now so we brought our kids to share that tradition."

It was a lively and deathly 90th anniversary for another "gloomy one."
