FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Officials in a Farmington school district say someone has been soliciting people in the area for money for a fake school project.

The Daily Times reports that the Central Consolidated School District received reports that someone went door to door Thursday in the Harper Valley subdivision to ask for donations.

According to witnesses, the person said the donations were for the Tse' Bit Ai' Middle School restoration project.

School district spokesman James Preminger says no such project exists.

Preminger says the person's actions constitute as fraudulent behavior.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Farmington police or the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.
