Car theft suspect arrested after chase, standoff

ALBUQUERQUE -- Authorities have named the car theft suspect accused of leading deputies on a chase near Unser and Gibson on Monday night.

Officers arrested Joseph Maestas after he crashed a stolen vehicle and then barricaded himself inside of a home on Native Flower Place SW.

The car theft victims found their vehicle at an apartment complex and called Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies. BCSO said Maestas fled after deputies approached the car and led them on a short pursuit, almost hitting some deputies in the process.

Maestas is being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of aggravated eluding, aggravated assault on a peace officer and receiving or transferring of a stolen motor vehicle.
