ALBUQUERQUE -- Daryl Martinez, the man who allegedly shot and killed 27-year-old James Lucero on August 30, was apparently upset over being shorted $1 on a bag of heroin Lucero had allegedly bought from him earlier in the evening.
According to police, Lucero had bought $18 worth of heroin from Martinez, and later, at a gathering, Martinez accused Lucero of shorting him $3 on the purchase.
The two men then allegedly argued, and Lucero gave Martinez all the cash he had on him at the time, which was only $2. Martinez then followed Lucero outside and shot Lucero in the chest, killing him.
After a police investigation, they served a warrant at the 600 block of Bataan SW Tuesday night and arrested Martinez on an open count of first-degree murder.
Martinez's bond has been set at $250,000 cash only.
