Detecting a Lump and Breast Cancer Treatment Options
If you feel a lump in your breast, a woman’s first fear is usually breast cancer. Don’t panic! Breast cancer reports show that eighty percent of lumps are benign, or non cancerous. Benign breast lumps can be caused by certain medications, breast injury or infection, and normal changes in breast tissue.
If you detect a lump or any other new breast changes, visit your healthcare provider for further follow-up.
If you do have cancer, your treatment options are greater today than ever before. Although each case will vary, treatment may involve surgery – mastectomy or lumpectomy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and/or biological therapy.
The Lovelace Breast Care Center offers comprehensive care – from early detection to treatment and aftercare – in one convenient location. Our team of breast health professionals will help you assess your risk of developing breast cancer, guide you through mammograms and clinical exams and teach you the proper method of breast self-examination. We also offer counseling, education and support programs.
Most breast lumps are benign, but if you're diagnosed with breast cancer, our multidisciplinary team is available to provide expert care with extraordinary sensitivity.
