Testing for Breast Cancer

 

 

If your doctor suspects breast cancer or merely wants to rule it, out the next step will be diagnostic testing. The following are some tests used in the evaluation of breast cancer:

  • Mammogram – is an x-ray is taken of the breast from at least two different angles. This set of images is called a mammogram.
  • Blood Tests – such as a complete blood count (CBC) shows information about the number of different cells in your blood.
  • Biopsy – there are many types of biopsy procedures, most in which cells or tissue are removed and examined for cancerous cells.
  • Bone Scan – is a nuclear scanning test that determines whether cancer has spread to the bones.
  • MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides an image where non-cancerous and cancerous lesions can be distinguished.
  • Breast Ultrasound – provides an image of the breast through sound waves and determines whether a lump is a cyst or a solid mass.

 

Your doctor will determine which test is most suitable for your.
