Authorities nab police impersonators

Officers have arrested three people accused of breaking into the homes of illegal immigrants while dressed in police garb.

A fourth person has turned himself in in connection with the string of home invasions and investigators continue to look for a fifth suspect.

The three men arrested Sunday -- Steven, Adan and Javier Torres -- were all related. Luciano Torres turned himself in Monday night.

Authorities continue to look for Brian Lee Torres and suspect that he is hiding out somewhere in Albuquerque's South Valley.

All five are accused of forcing their way into at least four homes while wearing police shirts and robbing families at gunpoint.

"They pointed the gun at me, they threw me to the ground and they placed handcuffs on me and then they did the same thing to my family," said Roberto Aguilar who, along with his wife and two children, were victims of the thieves.

Investigators believe the Torres men were targeting illegal immigrants who may have been hesitant to come forward out of fear of deportation.

Investigators believe there are more victims who haven't come forward and want to assure any victims that they won't get in trouble if they report they were robbed.

Of the five suspects, Steven Torres has the worst criminal record. He's been charged with 14 felonies since 1996 and has three DWI convictions.
