Jeff Maher joined KOB-TV in August 2006 as a general assignment reporter for Eyewitness News 4 Today.  Before Jeff came to ‘The Land of Enchantment,’ he spent two years at KWES-TV (NBC) in Midland Texas, where he anchored and produced the weekend news and reported during the week.  He was born in Beaumont, Texas, but has lived in Denver, Colorado for most of his life.

In 2006 Jeff was honored with two top awards from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters for his extensive coverage on Hurricane Rita and a special series report he did on three Midland friends who all had near-death experiences.  He covered several big stories in West Texas, including the immigration and drug battle at the border, the largest apartment fire in the city’s history, and the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina.  He got his first taste of the business while covering the shootings at Columbine High School in 1999.

Television has always been a part of Jeff’s family. His grandfather was a Hollywood screenwriter and wrote for legendary actors Gracie Allen and George Burns. His father is a 30-year TV news veteran, three-time Emmy award winner, and is currently the executive producer of the highest rated morning show in the country at KUSA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Denver. For a while, Jeff’s mother was a weather anchor in New Mexico.

Jeff brings years of experience studying from his father and the 9News team in Denver. He graduated from Metro State in the fall of 2003 receiving a B.A. in Speech Communications with an emphasis on Television Broadcasting and a minor in Journalism. He also spent a year studying film at the Colorado Film and Video Institute. In college, Jeff was a reporter for the school paper and student newscast. He also wrote a weekly online column, awarded ‘Best Online Column’ by the Society for Professional Journalists. During college Jeff was well known in Denver for his weekly cable show and his comedic performances on local radio stations and comedy clubs.

Upon his high school graduation he was honored with an award by the faculty for being the ‘most creative student’, most notably for pioneering a film and video class and producing over 300 short films over a four-year span.

Jeff is thrilled to be a part of station with such a great reputation and history of excellence, and is glad to be living near the mountains again.

Jeff spends his free time working out and playing basketball. Most of his family lives back in Denver. His older brother Matt is a fighter pilot for the Navy and is currently flying the E-A 6B Prowler out of Whidbey Island, WA. His younger sister Callie is a competitive dancer.
