"Shop and Stroll," a Nob Hill business initiative that has shut down Central Avenue for pedestrians, is still causing headaches as traffic congestion clogs residential streets.
But after some changes, people who live in Nob Hill say the traffic problem is getting a little bit better.
The city opened up certain streets, like Richmond, to try and make it easier for people who live and drive around the area to get around.
But residents say they still have to deal with traffic being diverted straight into their neighborhoods. Many drivers are using Central's side roads, like Silver, instead of their normal route. On top of that, Nob Hill business patrons are parking their cars in front of homes and driveways of surrounding neighborhoods.
Despite this, neighbors say the traffic was a bit lighter this Sunday verses previous ones because of certain changes, including a new shuttle into the shopping district.
"The shuttle, it seemed, was moving people around people weren't trying to park as close as usual," resident John Anuskewicz said. "You know us, trying to park right in front of where ever we are going and there is only so many spots. I don't know what made it work better, but it seemed a lot more pleasant."
That shuttle service, run by the City of Albuquerque, runs through the closed off portion of Central. Shoppers are encouraged to catch ABQ Ride to Nob Hill to help cut down on traffic.
