 A New Mexico Catholic priest says Roswell Police are causing fear in his parish by targeting illegal immigrants.
Father Juan Montoya claims police are going after illegal immigrants non-stop. He says many of the illegal immigrants that go to his church are afraid to attend Mass.
The Roswell police chief says that's nonsense.
"This is one of those things that gets spread around the community and is just full of ignorance. It's uninformed people talking and causing panic," said Chief Robert H. Smith.
Smith says his officers only arrest illegal immigrants if they commit a crime. He says the feds then look into immigration violations.
