Austin Reed

Austin Reed joined KOB-TV in October, 2008. He comes to us from KPTV Fox 12 in Portland, Oregon where he spent three years as a special features reporter.

Prior to that, he worked for the Comcast Cable Network in Portland as an anchor/producer, reported/produced for KWVT-TV 17 in Salem, Oregon, and interned at KEZI-TV ABC 9 in Eugene, Oregon.

Austin has had a love, passion, and special interest for news since he was just 10 years old. He would put on a "pretend" newscast almost every night from the basement of his house for about a year. That landed him the opportunity to "junior report" for the CBS, ABC, and UPN affiliates in Portland. He wasn't considered a full time employee, but the experience was priceless.

By age 13, with help from his parents, he produced a weekly news program on the local cable access station. He learned everything from how to report the news on-camera, to working behind the scenes, operating a camera.

In the span of five years- he served as an anchor, reporter, producer, writer, photographer, video editor, and technical director.

Austin first invited friends and neighbors of his to take part. By the show's end, over 75 teens from across Oregon and Washington were members at one time or another.

In his senior year of high school, Austin launched a TV news department, was the speech and communication team's district champion for the radio division, served as the school's student body president, and was the recipient of the Barbara Holmberg inspirational award.

He studied broadcasting through Mount Hood Community College's Multnomah Community Television Program in Gresham, Oregon.

TV News isn't Austin's only focus either. He was a DJ for a CBS Radio station in Portland from 2007-2008, he also had a short stint in New York City acting in movies, commercials, and TV shows.

You can even catch a quick glimpse of him in Sony Picture's "Untraceable" starring Diane Lane. He played a news reporter (what a surprise?).

Austin was born in Asheville, North Carolina. In his free time, he likes to work out at the gym, spend time with family and friends, he loves music, basketball, and the Portland Trail Blazers. He likes to travel and to eat great food.

He also likes to volunteer with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It's a disease close to his heart--Austin was diagnosed with "CF" when he was 3 years old.
