A woman who wanted to give her granddaughter a puppy for Christmas but ended up with a dead dog is accusing a Los Lunas breeder of running a puppy mill.

Julie Moxley said as soon as she brought her new Yorkshire Terrier home Dec. 23, she knew something wasn't right. She said the puppy was sluggish and inactive.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian who told Moxley the Terrier was full of parasites, her gums were gray and she was in distress. Moxley said the puppy was in great pain.

"She was seizing every 10 to 20 minutes and I said I don't want her to suffer," she said.

The puppy was euthanized and Moxley was left without her granddaughter's surprise gift. The grandmother said she had to give a Yorkshire Terrier Christmas tree ornament to her granddaughter instead.

When Moxley told the breeder what had happened, she said the woman got angry.

"She said, 'I owe you nothing! Absolutely nothing,'" Moxley said.

When Eyewitness News 4 confronted the breeder, Judy Corbin, about Moxley's allegations, she said she had somewhere else to be and couldn't stop to talk.

Before she turned from our camera and walked into her house, she denied selling sick dogs. She said she has an 18-month written guarantee on the dogs she sells.

A registered breeder in Belen said Corbin is running a puppy mill. Animal Protection of New Mexico said they have several complaints about Corbin's breeding business.

When Animal Protection was told about our story, they said they will be working with Valencia County authorities to inspect Corbin's operation.
