Martin Chavez speaks from Washington DC Friday
For the third time this year, Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez was in Washington D.C. to talk about how to spend federal economic stimulus money.
He met at the White Hose with the president, vice president, cabinet secretaries and about 60 other mayors.
Chavez said some of Albuquerque's money will be arriving soon.
"You'll see some of energy block grants for some of solar initiatives, weatherization really start to hit in three to four months, the tax cuts, some of them will hit in next four months, those won't go through government," the mayor said. "Those will go straight to individual pocketbooks, the Pell Grants will become available almost immediately to students attending UNM or other institutions of higher learning."
Chavez said police grants will be available by the middle of March.
One disappointment, said the mayor, is there will be no money available to build a new interchange at I-25 and Paseo del Norte.
