Over 40 dogs have been found at an Albuquerque man’s house after Eyewitness News 4 called about possible over-breeding.

Galen Roumpf, 68, sells the labs for $400 each out of his home near Tijeras.

Six months ago, when he lived in Springer, he ditched more than 30 dogs at Albuquerque's pound because he couldn't sell them.

But Roumpf is back in business, breeding dogs again.

He says if he over-breeds, he'll have to dump even more dogs off at the shelter. He says taking the dogs to the shelter when he over-breeds is better then doing nothing.

"Maybe it's taking advantage, but for $80 dollars, spaying alone is worth that to the people," Roumpf said.

After Eyewitness News 4’s visit, animal control officers arrived.

They say that they found eight more dogs than Roumpf is allowed under county law. He will get another visit from animal control officers on Thursday.

The violation could mean an end to his breeder's license.
