DORA, N.M. (AP) - A grass fire on private land east of Dora has charred an estimated 1,500 acres and burned a house and barn. No injuries have been reported, and officials have not ordered evacuations in the rural Roosevelt County area.
High winds are hampering efforts to fight the blaze, which was 50 percent contained Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts up to 47 mph have been reported in the area.
Road graders were working on a fire break east of the blaze, dubbed the Garrison 30 Fire. State Forestry Division spokesman Dan Ware says the fire's spread has been stopped, but the winds have raised concerns about it starting up again.
The fire broke out Thursday. The cause is under investigation.
