CLAYTON, N.M. (AP) - Farmers and ranchers in Union County affected by drought are eligible for disaster aid.
The county has been declared eligible for disaster assistance due to its proximity to Texas counties that were declared disaster areas due to continuing drought.
The aid comes in the form of low-interest emergency loans to farmers and ranchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency.
Sen. Jeff Bingaman, a New Mexico Democrat, says the loans will help farmers and ranchers affected by drought get back on their feet.
