Pojoaque Lt. Gov. indicted for fatal accident

Pojoaque Pueblo Lt. Gov. Linda Diaz has been indicted for the April hit-and-run death of a Chimayo man.

A grand jury handed down the ruling Wednesday morning. Diaz faces a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident.

On April 4, the body of Phillip Espinosa, 31, was discovered by U.S. 84/285. The next day, Diaz allegedly called Pojoaque tribal police to say she had "done something very bad."

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department said it found indications Espinosa had been struck by Diaz's car.

Diaz was not arrested Tuesday. She is expected back in court within the next two weeks.

The lieutenant governor could serve a maximum of three years in prison plus possible restitution payments if she is found guilty.
