Dead horse left for days by road in Valencia County

Dead horse left in Valencia County.
A dead horse is causing more than just a stench in Valencia County. Neighbors were furious no one has removed the rotting animal after a few days.

The dead horse is bound with rope around its head and front hooves. It looks like someone may have dragged the horse and left it for dead a few days ago in the eastern portion of Meadow Lake.

Homeowners in the area enjoy beautiful views of the Manzano Mountains and the fresh air that comes with it, but lately, a stench lingers in the air.

Thursday afternoon, a dried up pool of blood was next to the dead, bound horse, which was infested with feasting flies.

Poland native Tad Niemyjski found the horse this morning, while looking for one of his dogs that escaped from his home.

"I couldn't imagine, somebody left being choked, his throat was choked with rope on him," Niemyjski said.

Niemyjsi says he called animal control, but says he didn’t get anywhere. Then he called the Animal Livestock Board. The livestock board did not return calls Thursday to explain why it hadn’t removed the horse.

Valencia County Animal Control initially said they didn’t have the equipment to scoop up the horse, but late Thursday evening, Niemyjski said they moved the horse to the side of the road and covered it with dirt.
