Man rescued from 40-foot fall in NM

GALLUP (AP) - Gallup firefighters on Friday rescued a man who fell 40 feet from a cliff along a river, breaking his arm.

Fire Department Lt. Noe Dee Lujan - one of the rescuers - says the man told firefighters he was walking at midnight in a neighborhood along the Rio Puerco west of Gallup when he fell.

Lujan says the man fell on his shoulder, breaking his arm. The man used his cell phone to call for help.

Firefighters lowered themselves by ropes to where the man fell, then used a basket to haul him back to the top.

Lujan did not have the man's name.
