Feds look into alleged high school drug ring

The student at the center of the investigation attends Eldorado High School

Federal investigators are looking into a possible heroin trafficking ring at Albuquerque's Eldorado High School, Eyewitness News 4 has learned.

The target of the investigation is one student—but the DEA is looking into further involvement.

Informants tell feds the ring supplies heroin to current and former Eldorado students. The informant says one student died in February from an overdose of heroin and Oxycontin—supplied by the alleged ring.

The feds seized the student's cell phone to find out what other students may be involved in the alleged ring. They say the phone numbers and contact list on the target's cell phone is long.

Eldorado's principal says he had no idea about the alleged ring, but says at least one student was busted last year for having Oxycontin.

Eldorado junior Brandon Taylor says the allegations gives students a bad name.

The target's parents contacted authorities recently after saying they witnessed their son conducting a drug deal at a home on the 2800 block of Florida. The alleged heroin deal happened during a funeral at the home.

According to a search warrant, the parents looked at their son's cell phone records and told authorities they believed "the text messages were used to set up the narcotics transactions."

So far, the DEA says no students have been arrested. Officials say the investigation is in the beginning stages.
