Toddler hospitalized following dog attack

A toddler was hospitalized Saturday in Albuquerque with serious injuries after being attacked by a dog.

The two-year-old girl is from Albuquerque, but the attack happened Saturday morning in Stanley when the girl and her parents were visiting at her grandparents' house.

Authorities say the girl was playing in the yard and went after a toy that ended up near the chow mix.

The dog, which is owned by her grandparents, was chained, but still went after the girl.

The girl was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque and underwent several surgeries on Saturday.

The girl has serious face and neck injuries.

Santa Fe County authorities had to kill the dog at the home.

Officials say it will be tested for rabies, and the dog was not current on vaccinations.

Authorities say charges could be filed.
