Chimayo school bus rolls

Fourteen school children were treated for cuts and bruises Monday morning after the school bus in which they were riding rolled off of a one-lane road in Chimayo.

State police say the driver avoided a head-on collision with a speeding car by driving onto the shoulder of Rio Arriba County Road 80 near Cordova.

They say the bus then rolled down a 25-foot embankment, coming to rest on its side. State police say some of the 13 elementary school children on the bus were treated at the scene and others were taken to Espanola. The children ranged in age from 7 to 11.
